Managing License Activations: Site Licenses, Staging, and Reusing a License

Every SureRank Pro license comes with a set number of site licenses, the number of websites you can activate it on at the same time. This guide explains how site licenses work, how to check your current activations, and how to safely move a license between a staging site and your live site without losing it.

How Site Licenses Work

Your SureRank Premium plan includes a fixed number of activations (for example, 1, 10, or 500 sites, depending on the plan you purchased). Each time you activate your license key on a website, it uses up one of those site licenses.

A site license is not permanently tied to a specific site. You can deactivate it from one website at any time, which immediately frees it up so it can be activated on a different website. There’s no limit to how many times you can move a license between sites, and you won’t lose your activation by doing so.

Viewing Your Active Site Licenses

1. Log in to your account at my.surerank.com.
2. Go to Downloads, and click on your purchased plan.
3. Open the License Keys tab.

Here you’ll see your license key along with a list of every site it’s currently activated on. This is the fastest way to check how many site licenses you have left before activating on a new site.

Using a License on a Staging Site

It’s common to set up and test SureRank Pro on a staging site before moving to production. You can do this safely:

1. Activate your license on the staging site as usual, from SureRank → Tools → License.
2. Build out and test your setup (schema, AI features, sitemaps, etc.) on staging.
3. When you’re ready to go live, deactivate the license from the staging site.
4. Activate the same license key on your production site.

Since site licenses are reusable, moving from staging to production doesn’t cost you an extra activation or put your license at risk.

Tip: If you’re only testing briefly, it’s fine to leave the license active on staging and activate on production separately, as long as you have an available site license on your plan.

Deactivating and Reusing a License

You can free up a site license in either of two ways:

From the WordPress dashboard (recommended for the site you’re moving away from):

1. Go to SureRank → Tools → License on the site you want to deactivate.
2. Click Deactivate License.

From your account dashboard (useful if you no longer have access to the site):

1. Log in at my.surerank.com and go to Downloads → License Keys.
2. Find the site you want to remove in the list of activations.
3. Click Delete next to that site, then confirm.

Either method frees up the license immediately. You can activate it on another site right away with no waiting period.

Troubleshooting

• License shows as “Inactive” after a plugin update or site change: Go to SureRank → Tools → License and click Refresh License once. This re-checks your activation status without using an additional site license.
• “Activation limit reached” error when activating on a new site: This means all your site licenses are currently in use. Deactivate the license from a site you no longer need (see above), or contact support to increase your limit.
