Miscellaneous Settings in SureRank

SureRank’s Miscellaneous settings page holds three independent, unrelated toggles that don’t fit anywhere else in the plugin. Here’s what each one does.

Where to Find It

Go to SureRank → Tools → Miscellaneous.

Contribute to SureRank

What it does: Shares anonymous usage data with the SureRank team (how the plugin is used, which features are active) to help prioritize fixes and new features.

  • Off by default until the customer opts in.
  • No personal or site content is involved. It’s usage/feature data, not post content or customer data.
  • Can be turned off at any time with no effect on plugin functionality.

Headless REST API

What it does: Exposes a site’s SEO metadata (titles, descriptions, social tags, and schema) through a public REST endpoint, so a headless front-end (e.g. a separate React/Next.js site pulling content from WordPress) can render the same SEO output SureRank would normally print in <head>.

  • Off by default.
  • Only relevant for sites using WordPress as a headless CMS, meaning the actual front-end the visitor sees is a different application, not WordPress’s own theme.
  • Turning this on does not change anything on a normal (non-headless) WordPress site. The SEO tags in <head> are printed by SureRank either way. This setting only adds the extra public endpoint for external apps to fetch that same data.
  • If a customer doesn’t know what “headless” means, they almost certainly don’t need this on.

Delete Plugin Data on Uninstall

What it does: Controls whether uninstalling (not just deactivating) SureRank also permanently deletes its data: settings, schema, sitemap data, per-post and per-term SEO fields, and any scheduled tasks.

  • Off by default. SureRank’s data is preserved if the plugin is removed and reinstalled later.
  • If turned on, uninstalling the plugin from the Plugins screen removes all SureRank data permanently. This cannot be undone.
  • Deactivating the plugin never deletes data, regardless of this setting. Only a full uninstall (delete) does, and only if this toggle is on.

Steps for the Customer

  1. Go to SureRank → Tools → Miscellaneous.
  2. Turn Contribute to SureRank on/off based on their preference. No functional impact either way.
  3. Only turn on Headless REST API if they’re running a headless/decoupled front-end that needs to fetch SEO data via the API.
  4. Leave Delete Plugin Data on Uninstall off unless they specifically want a clean removal with no leftover data. Warn them this is permanent before they enable it and uninstall.

Key Takeaways

If a customer accidentally deleted their SEO data by uninstalling with this toggle on, there’s no way to recover it from within SureRank.

Check whether they have a recent site backup.

This isn’t a bug. It’s the intended, permanent effect of the setting.
