Understanding Page SEO Analysis: Where to Find It and How Checks Work

SureRank continuously checks every piece of content you edit, posts, pages, taxonomy terms, and even user/author archive pages against a set of on-page SEO best practices, and surfaces the results as a Page SEO Checks panel. This is separate from the Site SEO Audit, which looks at site-wide settings rather than one piece of content. This article explains where to find both, how the checks are calculated, what the status labels mean, and how to refresh results.

Where to Find Page SEO Analysis

Page-level checks show up in several places, all backed by the same underlying data:

  • Classic Editor: a “SureRank SEO” meta box appears below the content editor on post, term-edit, and user-profile screens.
  • Block Editor (Gutenberg): a SureRank icon in the top toolbar, plus a SureRank SEO panel in the Document Settings sidebar, opens the same checks in a modal. Pre-publish and post-publish panels also surface a quick status message.
  • Post/Page/Term list tables: an SEO Score badge appears as its own column (e.g. on edit.php, edit-tags.php, and users.php). Clicking the badge opens the same checks modal directly from the list view.
  • WP Admin Bar: a live SEO status indicator is available from any admin screen.

Inside the modal, checks are grouped under a “Page Checks” accordion and a separate “Keyword Checks” accordion when a focus keyword is set.

Site SEO Audit vs. Page SEO Analysis

These are two distinct features that are easy to confuse:

Stored wherePer-post/term meta (surerank_seo_checks)Site option (surerank_site_seo_checks)

How the Checks Work

Each check inspects a specific element of the content and page settings, for example:

  • Meta title and description length (too short / too long/good)
  • Whether the focus keyword appears in the title, description, URL, and content
  • Presence of subheadings (H2 through H6)
  • Missing image alt text
  • Whether the page has at least one image/video and at least one link
  • Canonical URL and Open Graph tag presence
  • URL length

Checks run automatically whenever content is saved, either when the post is saved in WordPress, or when SEO settings are saved from the SureRank panel. For page builders (Elementor, Bricks, Breakdance, Avada), where SureRank can’t yet see unsaved builder content, the same checks are re-run live in the browser against the current preview, so results can update before you hit Save. A full “official” result still requires the page to be saved.

How the “SEO Score” Is Calculated

There is no numeric percentage score. This is a common point of confusion, since some other SEO plugins do show one. Instead, each check returns one of four statuses: Success, Warning, Error, or Suggestion. SureRank then rolls those up into one overall badge:

Badge ShownMeaning
Optimized (green)All checks passed
Issues Detected (red)At least one check failed (error)
Needs Improvement (yellow)No failures, but at least one warning
No Data (red)Checks haven’t run yet, or an error occurred computing them

So “improving your score” means resolving individual failed/warning checks, not chasing a percentage.

Re-running / Refreshing Checks

  • Per-page: Checks refresh automatically on save. If using a page builder, a Refresh button is available in the checks panel. SureRank will remind you to save your changes in the builder first, since it can only read what’s actually published/saved.
  • Site-wide: From Dashboard → Site SEO Audit, a Run Checks button forces a fresh check (bypassing any cached results), useful after fixing a flagged item or changing a global setting like your sitemap or Search Console connection.

Free vs. Pro

Both the per-page analyzer and the Site SEO Audit are available in the Free plugin. Pro does not add a different or “better” analysis engine. The difference is entirely in remediation:

  • Free shows a “Get Pro” or manual “Help Me Fix” link next to failed checks.
  • Pro replaces that with a working “Fix It For Me” button that applies an automated/AI-assisted fix for the same underlying check.

If a customer asks why their score/checks look identical between a Free site and a Pro site, that’s expected. Pro only changes what happens when you click to fix an issue, not what’s being checked.
