How to Enable the News Sitemap in SureRank

What is a News Sitemap?

A News Sitemap is a special type of sitemap designed for websites that regularly publish news articles or time-sensitive content. Unlike a standard sitemap (which lists all pages and posts), a News Sitemap focuses only on your recent news content.

Search engines like Google News use this sitemap to quickly discover breaking stories, ensuring your articles appear in news search results faster.

Why a News Sitemap Matters

  • Faster indexing of news articles – Search engines check your News Sitemap frequently to spot the latest stories.
  • Better visibility in Google News – If your site is approved for Google News, having a valid News Sitemap increases your chances of showing up in news carousels and search results.
  • Freshness signals – Search engines value up-to-date content. A News Sitemap highlights your site as an active source.

How the News Sitemap Works in SureRank

  • The News Sitemap includes only content published in the last 48 hours (as per Google’s guidelines).
  • It lists key details such as:
    • Article URL
    • Article Title
    • Publication
    • Language
    • Publication Date
  • Old articles automatically drop off once they’re older than 2 days.
