By SureRank Team
Most WordPress SEO plugins fall into one of two traps.
The first trap is too much. Settings buried inside settings. Dashboards that look like a server control panel. Scoring systems that flag forty different issues and leave you staring at red warnings without any idea which one actually matters for your rankings.
The second trap is too little. Stripped-back plugins that handle the basics and then leave you hunting for additional tools the moment you want to do anything beyond writing a meta description.
SureRank was built to land between those two traps. Everything you need to run serious SEO on a WordPress site. Nothing you do not.
This guide covers every feature in the plugin. Not a marketing summary. Not a bullet-point list. A real, thorough walkthrough of what each feature does, how it works, who it is for, and what it actually changes for your SEO.
Whether you are evaluating SureRank for the first time, figuring out what you are not using yet, or showing a client what they are getting, this is the only reference you need.

It comes in two versions:

The Setup: Onboarding That Actually Configures Things
The first thing you notice about SureRank is the onboarding wizard. It runs automatically when you activate the plugin and takes approximately three minutes to complete.
This is not a wizard that walks you through a checklist and then leaves the actual configuration to you. It is one that makes decisions based on your answers and applies them automatically.
What the onboarding wizard does:
- Asks for your site type, business name, and brand details
- Uses this information to auto-generate your Knowledge Graph and Organisation schema immediately
- Connects your social profiles so Open Graph and brand recognition signals are in place from day one
- Configures your XML sitemap automatically and makes it live before you leave the wizard
- Performs an initial site-wide SEO health check so you start with a clear picture of what needs attention
- Unlocks AI credits instantly on Pro plans
The result is that your foundational SEO infrastructure is live before you publish your first post. No manual configuration of individual settings. No follow-up setup checklist to work through.
Read the complete SureRank onboarding guide.
Feature 1: On-Page SEO Meta Box
Every post, page, product, and custom post type in WordPress gets a SureRank meta box in the editor. This is where the day-to-day SEO work happens.
What the meta box includes:
- SEO Title: Set a custom title that appears in search results, independent of your post title. Live character counter with optimal range guidance. Template variables like post title, site name, and separator are available for consistent formatting.
- Meta Description: Write the description that appears under your title in search results. Character counter prevents truncation. Live SERP preview shows exactly how the result will look in Google before you publish.
- Focus Keyword: Set your target keyword and SureRank tracks its presence across the title, URL, opening paragraph, and subheadings in real time.
- URL Slug Control: View and edit the page URL directly within the meta box without leaving the editor.
- Indexing Controls: Set individual pages to noindex, nofollow, or exclude from sitemaps without touching your robots.txt file.
- Canonical URL: Set or override the canonical URL for any page to manage duplicate content signals cleanly.
- Open Graph Settings: Customise the title, description, and image that appear when the page is shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, and other platforms.
- X (Twitter) Card Settings: Customise how content displays when shared on X, separate from the Open Graph settings.
The Google Search Console URL Inspection status (added in v1.8.0):
This is a feature worth pausing on. Right inside the meta box, while you are editing any post or page, SureRank shows you the Google Search Console URL Inspection status for that specific URL.
Indexed. Not indexed. Crawl error. All visible without switching to a separate tool.
This is most useful in two situations: immediately after publishing something new when you want to confirm Google picked it up, and when a page you expect to rank is simply not showing up anywhere. The answer is right there in the editor.
SERP Preview (desktop and mobile):
Before publishing, you can toggle between a desktop and mobile preview of how your search result will appear. Title length, description length, and URL format are all visible at actual display size.
Set up your focus keyword in SureRank.
Feature 2: Page SEO Checks
Beyond the meta box, SureRank runs a real-time page-level SEO analysis as you write. This is the on-page scoring system.
What it checks:
- Focus keyword in the SEO title
- Focus keyword in the meta description
- Focus keyword in the URL slug
- Focus keyword in the opening paragraph
- Focus keyword in at least one H2 subheading
- Content length relative to topic depth expectations
- Internal links present in the content
- Alt text on images within the post
- Readability at a basic level
The philosophy here is different from plugins that run 40-plus checks. SureRank shows you the checks that directly and consistently move rankings. The scoring is clear, actionable, and fast to work through before publishing.
Each check is either complete or needs attention. No ambiguous orange warnings. No checks that flag issues Google does not care about.
See the complete page SEO check documentation.
Feature 3: Site-Wide SEO Analysis
The page-level checks are for individual posts. The site-wide SEO analysis is for your entire site at once.
This runs a comprehensive audit across every page, checking the factors that affect your overall SEO health and surfacing issues you likely did not know existed.
What the site audit covers:
- Missing or duplicate meta titles across your site
- Missing or duplicate meta descriptions
- Pages missing Open Graph images
- Schema markup presence and validity
- Sitemap availability and configuration
- Robots.txt configuration issues
- HTTPS status
- Canonical tag correctness
- WWW versus non-WWW redirect consistency
- Homepage indexability
- H1 presence on key pages
- Site tagline configuration
How fixes work in SureRank Pro:
In the free version, the audit identifies issues and tells you what to fix. In SureRank Pro, the AI layer takes this further. For many common issues, a Fix button appears alongside the flagged item. Click it and SureRank applies the recommended fix automatically.
This is the difference between a checklist of problems and a tool that actually solves them. The audit tells you what is wrong. Pro lets AI resolve it immediately.
See SureRank’s SEO analysis feature in detail.
Feature 4: SureRank AI
SureRank AI is the feature that separates SureRank Pro from every other SEO plugin in its price range. It deserves its own thorough section.
The critical thing to understand: every AI feature in SureRank Pro is fully included. No API key. No OpenAI account. No credit system. No usage limits. You pay for Pro and the AI is part of that, used as heavily as you want.
AI Meta Title and Description Generation
Open any post, click the AI button in the meta box, and SureRank analyses the content of that specific page and writes an optimised title and description.
Not a generic template. A title and description based on what the page is actually about, written for both search visibility and click-through rate.
You review it, edit if needed, and confirm. The whole process takes under thirty seconds.
Bulk AI Meta Generation
This is the feature that solves one of the most common problems on established WordPress sites: a content library where most posts have never had a proper meta description written.
In SureRank Pro, you select the post types you want to update (posts, pages, products, or any combination), click generate, and SureRank writes optimised meta titles and descriptions for every single one in a single batch operation.
A site with 300 posts that has never had proper meta descriptions can have them all generated, reviewed, and applied in one afternoon.
AI Image Alt Text Generation
Every image on your site should have descriptive alt text. This helps visually impaired users, helps search engines understand your visual content, and makes your images eligible for Google Image Search results.
Writing alt text for hundreds of images manually is exactly the kind of task that never gets done.
SureRank Pro uses AI to generate accurate, descriptive alt text for every image automatically. It also supports bulk processing of your entire media library in a single operation.
In SureRank 1.9.1 (released June 2026), WooCommerce product images that have no alt text now automatically use the image file name as a fallback. No blank alt attributes across your product catalogue, even before running the AI generation.
Read about Image SEO in SureRank.
AI Open Graph and Social Title Generation
Open Graph titles and descriptions are what appear when someone shares your content on Facebook, LinkedIn, or other platforms. Most sites leave these blank, which means platforms pull whatever text they find first.
SureRank AI generates compelling, scroll-stopping Open Graph titles and descriptions automatically, separate from the standard SEO meta fields, so your content looks polished wherever it is shared.
AI Site Audit Fixes
The site-wide SEO audit identifies issues. For many of those issues, SureRank Pro’s AI can fix them in a single click.
Missing meta descriptions across multiple posts: generated in bulk. Images without alt text: tagged automatically. Common structural issues: resolved without manual editing. This is what SureRank means when the homepage describes it as “an SEO consultant built into WordPress.”
AI Schema Recommendations (added in v1.8.0)
Open the Schema tab on any post or page and SureRank now reads the content and recommends the correct schema type.
Writing a step-by-step tutorial? It suggests HowTo. Publishing an event listing? Event schema. A local business page? LocalBusiness. A podcast episode? PodcastEpisode.
You do not have to know which of the 23 schema types is correct for any given piece of content. The AI reads the page and tells you.
Language-Aware AI (added in v1.6.2)
SureRank’s AI generator works in the language of each post. On multilingual sites, the AI generates meta tags and suggestions in the correct language per post automatically, not in English regardless of the content language. This was released in April 2026 alongside the multilingual SEO rollout.
AI Agent Integration via WordPress Abilities API (added in v1.8.0)
SureRank’s features are now registered through the WordPress Abilities API with MCP support. Compatible AI agents can read and update SEO meta, settings, sitemap configuration, and robots.txt directly through this API. This is relevant for developers and teams using AI-powered workflow tools that integrate with WordPress.
Feature 5: Link Manager
Internal linking is consistently cited as one of the highest-impact SEO improvements any site can make. It is also consistently one of the most neglected, because doing it properly across a large content library is genuinely time-consuming.
The SureRank Link Manager solves this at a structural level.
Site-Wide Link View
The Link Manager gives you a dashboard view of all internal links across your entire site. Not just what you can see on any individual page, but the complete picture: every link, every source page, every destination.
From this view, you can:
- See which pages are under-linked or completely unlinked (orphan pages)
- View how authority is flowing through your internal link structure
- Identify pages that should be linked to but are not
- Spot broken or outdated internal links
Smart AI Internal Link Suggestions (Pro)
In SureRank Pro, the Link Manager uses AI to analyse your content library and surface specific internal link opportunities you have missed.
For any given post, it can identify other posts on your site that are topically relevant and suggest linking from one to the other, with suggested anchor text. This is not a generic suggestion list. It is based on the actual content of both pages.
Standalone internal link suggestion tools cost $149 per year or more. This feature is included in SureRank Pro.
Language-Aware Link Management (v1.6.2)
On multilingual sites, the Link Manager now manages links per post language. Link suggestions on an English post recommend English content. Link suggestions on a Spanish post recommend Spanish content. This was a significant update for sites using WPML, Polylang, or TranslatePress.
Read the Link Manager documentation.
Explore SureRank’s link management feature page.
Feature 6: Schema Markup Builder
Schema markup is structured data that tells search engines exactly what your content represents. It is the technical layer behind rich results: star ratings, FAQ dropdowns, event dates, recipe cards, and other visual enhancements that appear directly in search results.
SureRank applies core schema automatically from the moment you install the plugin. SureRank Pro extends this with 23 schema types and an advanced builder.
Automatic Schema Applied on Install
No configuration required for these:
- Article applied to every blog post automatically
- WebSite applied to the homepage
- Organization applied site-wide using your brand details from onboarding
- BreadcrumbList applied across your site structure
- Product applied to WooCommerce products automatically
The 23 Schema Types in SureRank Pro
The Advanced Schema Builder covers every schema type the majority of WordPress sites will ever need:
Essential schemas (applied automatically or with one click): WebSite, WebPage, Organization, BreadcrumbList, Article, SearchAction, Person
Content and commerce schemas: Product, Recipe, Course, Event, JobPosting, LocalBusiness, Service, SoftwareApplication, Book, Movie, VideoObject, PodcastEpisode
Advanced and specialist schemas: FAQPage, HowTo, ClaimReview, Dataset, DiscussionForumPosting
AI Schema Recommendations
As covered in the AI section, SureRank reads your page content and recommends the correct schema type. This removes the need to know which type fits which content.
Custom Schema JSON
For advanced users and developers, SureRank Pro allows you to add custom Schema JSON directly. This means any structured data type, including types not yet in the built-in library, can be added without additional plugins or code changes outside the editor.
Smart Display Conditions
Control exactly where specific schema types apply: on certain post types, specific pages, or based on category. Schema placement is precise, not site-wide by accident.
Feature 7: Advanced Sitemaps
SureRank generates and manages every sitemap type your site needs. The XML sitemap is active the moment you complete the setup wizard.
Sitemap Types Available
XML Sitemap (Free): The core sitemap that lists all your posts, pages, custom post types, taxonomies, and author pages for search engine crawlers. Updates automatically whenever you publish, update, or delete content. Images are included within the sitemap by default.
HTML Sitemap (Pro): A human-readable page on your site that presents your content structure in a browsable format. Add it to any page using a block or shortcode. Helps visitors navigate large sites and creates an additional internal linking layer that crawlers follow.
Video Sitemap (Pro): Tells Google specifically about video content on your site: titles, descriptions, durations, and thumbnail URLs. Makes your videos eligible for video-rich results and Google Video search.
News Sitemap (Pro): For publishers who want their articles to appear in Google News. Handles the 48-hour publication window requirement automatically.
Author Sitemap (Free, v1.9.0): Lists all author archive pages on your site. Useful for multi-author publications and supports Google’s author entity recognition for E-E-A-T signals.
Post-Type Archive Sitemaps (Free, v1.9.0): Archive pages for custom post types are now included in the XML sitemap automatically, closing a gap that previously required manual workarounds for sites with custom post types.
Sitemap Configuration Controls
- Include or exclude specific post types and taxonomies
- Enable or disable image inclusion within the sitemap
- Exclude specific pages from the sitemap without affecting their indexability
- Change the sitemap URL from the default if needed
- Regenerate the sitemap on demand after configuration changes
Read the complete sitemap documentation.
Feature 8: Instant Indexing
Publishing a new post and waiting days for Google to discover it is a real problem for sites building organic momentum.
SureRank Pro’s Instant Indexing feature eliminates that wait.
How it works:
When you publish or update a post, SureRank Pro notifies Google’s Indexing API immediately. Indexing typically happens within hours rather than days. Your content starts accumulating ranking signals as soon as it is live.
IndexNow support: SureRank also integrates with IndexNow, which notifies Bing, Yandex, and other IndexNow-compatible search engines simultaneously. One publish action. Multiple search engines notified immediately.
Google Indexing API support: Separate from IndexNow, SureRank notifies Google directly through the Google Indexing API for pages that are published, updated, or removed. Google understands exactly what changed and indexes the correct version without delay.
Google Search Console URL Inspection in the meta box: Because Instant Indexing works alongside the URL Inspection status feature in the editor, you can confirm whether a specific page has been indexed without leaving WordPress.
No other major SEO plugin at this price point includes Instant Indexing. It is exclusive to SureRank Pro.
Explore the Instant Indexing feature page.
Feature 9: Redirection Manager
Changing a URL without setting up a redirect is one of the most common SEO mistakes on growing WordPress sites. The original URL becomes a 404 error. Visitors get a dead page. Backlink equity accumulated from that URL evaporates.
SureRank Pro includes a full Redirection Manager inside WordPress. No separate redirect plugin required.
What the Redirect Manager does:
- Create 301 (permanent) and 302 (temporary) redirects from any old URL to any new destination
- Manage all redirects from a single dashboard inside WordPress
- Import redirect rules during migration from other SEO plugins
- Smart automatic redirections that identify and resolve broken links to maintain SEO health
- No need to edit .htaccess files or use a separate plugin
Comment reply link handling (added in v1.9.2):
WordPress comment reply links append a ?replytocom parameter to URLs, quietly creating duplicate pages that search engines crawl unnecessarily. SureRank 1.9.2 now redirects these automatically and adds the correct rel attributes to comment reply links. Your readers see no change. Your crawl budget stops being wasted.
Read the URL Redirection documentation.
Feature 10: Search Console Integration
SureRank integrates directly with Google Search Console and brings your performance data inside the WordPress dashboard.
What you can see without leaving WordPress:
- Which keywords are driving impressions and clicks to each post
- Impressions, clicks, click-through rate (CTR), and average position for every page
- Which posts are gaining traction over time versus losing visibility
- How your content compares to top-ranking results for any given query
- Keyword gaps: topics you could be covering that competitors are ranking for
Google OAuth token encryption (v1.9.2):
Search Console OAuth tokens are now encrypted when stored. Your authentication credentials are more securely handled than in previous versions.
Why this matters:
Most WordPress site owners check Search Console occasionally, do not know what to look at, and cannot connect what they see back to specific posts without significant effort. Having this data inside the editor, alongside the content it relates to, changes how quickly you can make good decisions about what to update, what to create next, and where the opportunities are.
Connect SureRank to Google Search Console.
Feature 11: Meta Templates
Writing individual meta titles and descriptions for every post type, archive, taxonomy, category, and tag page is one of the more tedious configuration tasks in WordPress SEO. Meta Templates removes this problem.
How Meta Templates work:
You define a template format once for each content type, using dynamic variables that SureRank fills in automatically.
For example, a meta title template for blog posts might be: {Post Title} | {Site Name}
For WooCommerce products: {Product Name} | Buy Online at {Site Name}
For category archives: {Category Name} Articles | {Site Name}
Once set, every post, product, and archive page within that content type gets a correctly formatted meta title automatically. New posts inherit the template without any manual work.
Variables available include post title, site name, category name, tag name, author name, date, and custom field values.
Read the Extended Meta Templates documentation.
Feature 12: WooCommerce and eCommerce SEO
SureRank includes full WooCommerce SEO support in both the free version and Pro. No separate add-on. No additional cost.
What WooCommerce SEO in SureRank covers:
- SEO titles and meta descriptions for every product page
- Product schema (name, price, availability, star ratings) applied automatically
- Open Graph tags for product social sharing
- AI meta generation for individual products (Pro)
- Bulk AI meta generation for the entire product catalogue (Pro)
- WooCommerce Cart and Checkout compatibility fully resolved as of v1.9.2
- Product image alt text using image file name as automatic fallback (v1.9.1)
FluentCart integration (added in v1.9.2):
SureRank now supports FluentCart natively. FluentCart products receive full SureRank SEO support including meta tags, schema markup, and sitemap inclusion out of the box, with no workarounds required.
Explore SureRank’s WooCommerce SEO support.
Feature 13: Robots.txt Editor
The robots.txt file at the root of your site controls which pages search engine crawlers can access. Getting it wrong can accidentally block Google from crawling important content. Getting it right improves crawl efficiency and keeps low-value pages out of the index.
SureRank includes a built-in robots.txt editor that lets you:
- View and edit your robots.txt file directly inside WordPress settings
- Control exactly which pages and directories search engines can access
- Add crawler-specific rules for different search engine bots
- Protect sensitive pages, admin areas, and staging content from indexing
- Confirm your sitemap URL is referenced correctly in the file
No FTP access required. No direct file editing outside of WordPress.
Read the Robots.txt documentation.
Feature 14: Breadcrumbs
Breadcrumbs are the navigation trail that shows users and search engines where a page sits within your site structure. They appear in search results as a cleaner, more readable URL path beneath your page title.
This is one of the highest-ROI schema implementations available: it improves the visual appearance of your search result, communicates your site structure clearly, and is worth more click-through rate improvement per minute of setup than almost anything else.
What SureRank’s Breadcrumb feature does:
- Auto-generates breadcrumb trails across your site structure
- Applies BreadcrumbList schema automatically so they are eligible to appear in search results
- Improves internal linking signals that help Google understand content hierarchy
- Requires minimal configuration after the initial setup
Read the Breadcrumbs documentation.
Feature 15: Email SEO Reports
Staying on top of SEO performance does not have to mean logging into dashboards. SureRank’s Email Reports deliver a clear SEO summary directly to your inbox on a schedule you choose.
What the reports include:
- Clicks and impressions over the reporting period
- Average position for your top-ranked content
- Which posts are performing best in search
- A clear week-over-week or month-over-month picture of your site’s momentum
For agencies and freelancers:
White-labeled client SEO reports are on the SureRank roadmap. When available, this will allow agencies to send branded reports styled with their logo and colours directly to clients, without requiring clients to log into any dashboard.
See SureRank’s Email Reports feature.
Feature 16: Role Manager
On sites with multiple contributors, authors, editors, or clients who need access to SEO settings, the Role Manager gives you precise control over who can see and change what.
What Role Manager controls:
- Define which WordPress user roles can access SureRank’s SEO settings
- Restrict access to global site settings while allowing post-level editing
- Allow editors to manage metadata for their own posts without touching sitemaps or technical settings
- Delegated roles can manage Integration toggles (updated in v1.8.0)
- Works correctly with Instant Indexing across all role configurations (fixed in v1.6.2)
This is particularly useful for client sites where the client needs to be able to edit meta descriptions without accidentally changing indexing settings, or for editorial teams where authors should have SEO guidance without access to technical configuration.
Read the Role Manager documentation.
Feature 17: Migration
Switching SEO plugins is the task most WordPress users are most afraid of. The fear is understandable: the wrong migration can break meta data across hundreds of pages, change indexing settings, or cause a measurable drop in rankings.
SureRank’s migration tool is designed to make that fear irrelevant.
Supported migration sources:
- Yoast SEO
- Rank Math
- AIOSEO (All in One SEO)
- Slim SEO
- Squirrly
What gets migrated:
- All SEO titles and meta descriptions
- Focus keywords
- Social media preview settings
- Robot meta settings (noindex, nofollow configurations)
- Redirect rules (where applicable)
- Author sitemap toggle (SEOPress migrations, v1.8.0)
How the migration works:
Install SureRank and keep your current plugin active. SureRank detects the existing plugin on activation and prompts you to begin migration. One click transfers everything. Review a sample of pages to confirm the data transferred correctly. Deactivate the old plugin.
No data is lost. No rankings are affected. The entire process takes under five minutes for most sites.
Settings Export and Import:
Beyond migrating from other plugins, SureRank allows you to export your entire SureRank configuration as a file and import it into any other WordPress site. This is useful for staging-to-live site transitions, client handovers, and managing consistent SEO configurations across multiple sites.
Read the migration documentation.
Feature 18: Multilingual SEO Support
SureRank fully supports multilingual WordPress setups. This was a significant addition that rolled out across versions 1.6.x and 1.9.x.
Supported multilingual plugins:
- WPML
- Polylang
- TranslatePress
What multilingual support includes:
- AI-generated meta tags in the correct language for each post automatically
- Link Manager managing internal links per post language, so multilingual cross-linking is accurate
- TranslatePress sitemap compatibility completed, including excluded path wildcards (v1.8.0)
- RTL (right-to-left) layout issues resolved for Arabic, Hebrew, and other RTL languages (v1.6.2)
This makes SureRank a complete solution for multilingual sites that previously had to cobble together separate SEO configurations per language.
Feature 19: Headless WordPress and Developer API (v1.9.0)
SureRank 1.9.0 added a Headless REST API, which extends SureRank’s functionality to headless WordPress builds using Next.js, Gatsby, or other JavaScript front ends.
What the Headless API enables:
- Access SureRank’s SEO meta data, sitemap configuration, and robots.txt settings through the REST API
- AI agents registered through the WordPress Abilities API can read and update SEO settings directly
- Compatible AI workflow tools can manage SureRank remotely without requiring admin dashboard access
This makes SureRank relevant for modern WordPress builds that go beyond the traditional PHP-rendered theme setup.
Feature 20: RSS Content Protection
SureRank includes a built-in RSS content protection feature that adds attribution links to your RSS feed.
This protects your content by ensuring that when other sites automatically republish your feed (a common occurrence with content scraping), those republished posts link back to your original article. It turns potential plagiarism into a source of backlinks rather than a source of duplicate content problems.
Read the RSS Content Protection documentation.
