How to Fix Home Page is Not Loading Correctly

If SureRank has flagged a critical issue saying: “Home Page is not loading correctly.”

This means that when search engines or users try to access your homepage, it isn’t displaying as expected.

This could affect both your site visitors and how search engines crawl your website.

What’s the problem?

Your homepage is the most important page of your site. If it fails to load, search engines may not be able to index your content properly, and users may leave quickly.

Common reasons why your homepage may not load correctly:

  • Server errors (5xx errors): The hosting server is overloaded or misconfigured.
  • Theme/plugin conflicts: A faulty theme or plugin update may break the homepage.
  • Misconfigured WordPress settings: Homepage not set under Settings > Reading.
  • Caching or CDN issues: Outdated cache or CDN configuration may serve broken content.
  • HTTPS/SSL issues: If SSL is not properly installed, browsers may block the page.

Why this matters

  • Search engines cannot crawl or rank your homepage.
  • Visitors may see an error or blank page and leave immediately.
  • A broken homepage lowers site trust and SEO performance.

How to fix it

Step 1 – Check if the homepage loads in your browser

  • Open your site in an incognito/private browser window.
  • If it doesn’t load, note the error message (e.g., 500 error, blank page, redirect loop).

Step 2 – Verify WordPress homepage settings

  • Go to Settings > Reading in your WordPress dashboard.
  • Ensure that the correct page is selected under Homepage displays.

Step 3 – Disable plugins temporarily

  • Go to Plugins > Installed Plugins.
  • Deactivate all plugins except SureRank.
  • Check if the homepage loads. If yes, reactivate plugins one by one to find the conflicting plugin.

Step 4 – Switch to a default theme

  • Go to Appearance > Themes.
  • Activate a default WordPress theme (like Twenty Twenty-Five).
  • If the homepage loads, the issue is with your theme.

Step 5 – Check caching/CDN

  • Clear your site cache (if using a caching plugin).
  • Purge CDN cache (e.g., Cloudflare, SiteGround Optimizer).
  • Try reloading your homepage.

Step 6 – Confirm SSL/HTTPS setup

  • Make sure your site is served over HTTPS.
  • If SSL is missing or broken, contact your hosting provider.

Step 7 – Contact your hosting provider

If the issue persists, it may be server-related. Here’s a template you can copy and send to your hosting team:

Email Template

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,

Step 9 – Re-run Site SEO Analysis

  • After making changes, Re-run Checks in SureRank.
  • The warning should disappear. Home Page is loading correctly.
