Fix Warning: Search Engine Description Is Missing on the Homepage in SureRank
When running the Site SEO Analysis in SureRank, you may see this warning message: Search engine description is missing on the homepage.

What This Means
The search engine description (also called meta description) is a short summary of a webpage. Search engines often display this text in search results under your page title.
If your homepage does not have a meta description, search engines may automatically pull random content from your page instead. This can reduce click-through rates and make your site appear less professional.
Why This Warning Appears
- No custom meta description has been added for the homepage.
- Your theme or page builder does not automatically generate a description.
- The description field in your SEO plugin is empty.
How to Fix the Issue
- Edit your homepage SEO settings
- Go to your WordPress dashboard.
- Navigate to SureRank > SEO Settings.
- Open your homepage SEO settings.
- Add a meta description
- Enter a clear and concise summary of your homepage (about 150–160 characters).
- Example:
- “Welcome to [Your Site Name] – Offering professional web design and digital marketing services to help your business grow online.”
- Save changes and update
- After adding the description, save your changes.
- Clear any caching plugins to ensure search engines can read the new description.
- Re-run Site SEO Analysis
- Run the Site SEO Analysis again in SureRank.
- The warning should no longer appear.
Important Notes
- Meta descriptions do not directly affect rankings, but they strongly influence click-through rate (CTR) from search results.
- Keep descriptions between 150–160 characters to ensure they display properly.
- Each page should have a unique description that matches its content.
